Mobility and Security update
Gartner is predicting that the PC industry will be pretty much dead in the next few years and it’s just going to be Smartphone’s and tablet devices.
Whether this timeline is accurate or not companies need to look at how their businesses will deal with the changes that are occurring. The BYO computer/device is a reality within a lot of organisations already. At a recent Industry roundtable in Sydney the following tips for a successful tablet rollout were mentioned.
1. If you are planning to allow BYO computing be prepared to allow all vendors’ devices
2. Use software solutions to partition work data away from personal data.(If the device is lost, you’ll be able to selectively wipe compromised data that way.)
3. Be aware that employees will try and get their devices onto the network, (whether officially supported or not.)
4. Be aware that C-Level executives and managers have different technology requirements
5. Make sure users are comfortable with the technology.(Allow personal space , and yes, games.)
